Kilmacduagh

Kilmacduagh, literally โ€œchurch of Duaghโ€™s sonโ€, is a fascinating monastic site which dates back to the establishment of an abbey there in the seventh century. Consisting of several church ruins, a leaning round tower, and cemetery this special place is at once bothย haunting and serenely beautiful.

In the Church at Kilmacduagh: โ€œPray for the soul of James Mulane and his wife Sarah Laughnane, who made this tomb for them & their reposter 1709โ€.
The atmosphere at dusk is other-worldly, and seems to summon the memories of all those who have lived and died here since ancient times.

Carrountoohil

Blessed withย an uncommonlyย perfect weather day, I had the pleasure and privilege of summitingย Carrauntoohil,ย the centerpiece of theย MacGillicuddyโ€™s Reeks, and at 3,400 feet elevation,ย the highest peak in Ireland.

The aptly named devil’s staircase follows the line where shadow meets unlight.
For a moment, the highest man in Ireland!
