Koningsdag (King’s Day) is yet another reason why Amsterdam will charm you and have you coming back for more!
Also called Queen’s Day (depending on who is the reigning monarch at the time), it is a unique celebration of fun, family, friendship, free enterprise, and the enjoyment of simple pleasures.
Believe it or not, I would have never known about this delightful holiday but for a chance encounter with a delightful Dutch couple I met at my favorite Irish Pub in Budapest!
The festivities kick off with King’s Night the evening before and continue until sundown the next day. Most business are closed as thousands take to the streets and canals. So, dress accordingly and immerse yourself in this sea of orange and good cheer!
